A County Durham cable company continues to secure capital city contracts, recently completing work on one of London’s most impressive new buildings.
Apex Wiring Solutions delivered lighting and power systems, incorporating ventilation and controls, within its tailor-made modular wiring solution installed in the newly constructed European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) HQ, in Canary Wharf business district.
It is the latest in a string of high-profile projects delivered in London by the Durham City-based manufacturer, which is also delivering other prestigious project including 8 Bishopsgate, the Whiteley’s regeneration, the net zero “The Forge” project and Phase 3 of the Battersea Power Station redevelopment.
In total, Apex will deliver over 40,000 components and over 30,000 metres of cable to the project.
Apex Wiring Solutions Sales Director, Paul Hopps, said: “Apex has built and maintains an excellent reputation for delivering bespoke, tailored wiring solutions to some of the most high-profile and complex projects across the world.
“We’re the epitome of a modern manufacturer – we design, develop, manufacture and deliver our systems to site ready to instal with near zero-waste. Our systems are also safer, quicker to install and are perfectly suited to operating in the new normal, where tradesmen are becoming increasingly used to social distancing and working in the post-COVID world.”
Modular wiring replaces traditional wiring trunking systems. Apex Wiring Solution’s products and components all simply “plug-in” to each other, reducing installation time, man hours and improving on-site safety.
The EBRD, which promotes development of private sector enterprise across emerging economies in three continents, is moving from Exchange Square in the City to Canary Wharf.
It will occupy 365,000sqft across the top 13 floors of the 24-storey building, relocating 2,500 EBRD staff. When complete, the building will be one of the most environmentally advanced and efficient offices in the UK, with a BREEAM Outstanding rating. Canary Wharf has become a global financial centre and important location for international businesses.
Apex, based in Durham for over 40 years, operates globally, but has seen a great amount of domestic success in recent months, as development gathers pace following the pandemic.
Apex Wiring Solutions Director, Mike Lewis, said: “Apex continues to deliver projects from Aberdeen to Gold Coast Australia, and while we have been busy throughout the pandemic, it is fantastic to see so many new projects starting and developments that have been delayed juddering back into life across the globe.
“We have invested heavily in our Durham HQ over the past two years as we believe our products – modular wiring solutions and or Apex Core prefabricated utility cupboards – are ideal solutions for constructors and developers who are adapting safer post-COVID working practices. Since we began manufacturing cable, our entire ethos has been to produce solutions that make development quicker, safer and more sustainable.”
