A County Durham manufacturer is bolstering its capital city credentials with another significant project win in London.

Apex Wiring Solutions, which is already supplying modular wiring systems to 12 high-profile urban regeneration projects across the capital, secured an order to supply a full modular wiring system and components to the prestigious “The Forge” development in the City of London.

When fully complete in 2022, The Forge will be the first Net Zero Carbon project that developer Landsec has delivered. The two buildings, in Sumner Street, are 90,000sqft and 40,000sqft, and deliver beautiful public realm to the surrounding area.

In total, Apex will deliver over 10,000 components and over 70,000 metres of cable to the project.

Apex Wiring Solutions Sales Director, Paul Hopps, said: “For the last 20 years, Apex has been building an excellent reputation for designing, developing and delivering bespoke, modular wiring systems for some of the most significant regeneration schemes in the capital. The Forge is another genuinely exciting, environmentally sympathetic, and ultra-modern project of this type.

“Apex products perfectly complement Landsec’s ground-breaking work to deliver the entire development as a zero-carbon project. Our wiring solutions arrive, ready-cut, with near-zero waste and our “plug and play” principles of safety, simplicity and speed – aid installation with minimum time and effort and in the safest possible way.”

Modular wiring replaces traditional “twin and earth” systems. Apex Wiring Solution’s products and components all simply “plug-in” to each other, reducing installation time, man hours and improving on-site safety.

“Our cities’ skylines are full of cranes, which are a clear sign of progress and growth – Apex is working on projects from Aberdeen to London, Manchester to Sunderland and it is really great to see industry and the construction sector bouncing back after the turmoil of the last 20 months,” added Paul.

“Apex continued to win business throughout the pandemic and any pandemic-induced downtime we had was spent highlighting areas of investment across the business. We recently invested almost £500,000 in new staff, new machinery and new IT systems, and as a result we have emerged from one of the toughest economic periods in modern history in rude health.

“However, many British firms have not, so business must ensure it supports the economic recovery and continues to buy British and seek out UK-based suppliers. The business world can be cut-throat, but just as countries and opposing political ideologies have worked together to fight the spread of the virus, the business community must work together to support our firms, re-grow our economy and ensure that we recover quickly and sustainably.”

The Forge is two new-build commercial office buildings, constructed around an internal courtyard accessible to the public. It will be nine storeys with a reception and basement and deliver a high quality sustainable building with improved streetscape and public realm.

It uses a hybrid steel and concrete structural platform that will provide the chassis for the office floor space. The project will include development of cladding and building services components to create a reusable kit-of-parts-based solution for offices.

Apex Wiring Solution is partnering with the NG Bailey specialist offsite team for the project.

The Apex Group of businesses last year marked its 40th year in Durham. The Group is made up of Apex Wiring Solutions, Artech Lighting and Apex Core, which manufactures prefabricated utility cupboards. It currently employs around 100 people.
